Second Genome, a fast-growing biotechnology company at the cutting edge of microbiome science, is seeking to hire a Research Associate, Solutions who will help us execute experiments and process laboratory projects and specimens that we receive through our Microbiome Profiling Services.

The Research Associate, Solutions will report to the Lab Manager, Solutions, with whom you will collaborate on accessioning, cataloging and storing specimens under appropriate conditions, performing different laboratory assays, and maintaining laboratory equipment and reagents.  We are seeking an organized, personable, team player who can efficiently achieve goals in a deadline-driven environment.  The right person for this role is passionate about microbiome research and has cultivated laboratory best practices as habits.

Responsibilities:

·       Follow protocols to execute on laboratory processes and generate high quality data

·       Track progress of received samples from accessioning to data delivery and communicate any issues to the Lab Manager

·       Day-to-day management of laboratory reagents and maintenance of key laboratory equipment

·       Produce general consumables for laboratory operation

·       Assist with additional miscellaneous laboratory tasks as required

·       Understand and adhere to safety guidelines

·       An Excellent Communicator: You speak, listen and write in a clear, thorough and timely manner using appropriate and effective communication tools and techniques. You know how to keep a neat laboratory notebook and understand the importance of documentation in the laboratory.

 

Qualifications:

·       Bachelor’s degree or higher in a relevant biological discipline

·       Minimum 2 years experience in an academic or clinical laboratory setting; Additional work experience in BSL2 and CLIA laboratories is a plus

·       Experience with molecular biology techniques and nucleic acid handling, such as DNA/RNA extraction, PCR, RT-PCR, qPCR, gel electrophoresis, Bioanalyzer

·       Experience processing a wide variety of complex and low-biomass biospecimen samples, such as tissue, stool, swabs, soil

·       Experience with next generation sequencing instrumentation and assays

·       Experience with microbiome profiling sequencing assays preferred, such as 16S rRNA gene, metagenomics, and metatranscriptomic sequencing

·       Experience with high-throughput sample processing and library prep is a bonus

·       General computer skills and proficiency with Apple products, Google Applications and Microsoft Office suite

·       Ability to lift 25 lbs. unassisted
