Second Genome is seeking an outstanding leader to head its Protein Sciences group; to lead novel microbiome derived protein discovery, engineering and technology development projects. They will be responsible for working closely with individuals in both protein sciences, discovery biology and bioinformatics to develop the next generation of protein based therapeutics for chronic diseases where the science of the microbiome has been established.
The primary responsibilities include delivering high quality therapeutic protein drug candidates based on obtaining in-depth knowledge of the therapeutic targets of interest and using this information to implement novel protein generation campaigns and when necessary technology platform development. This includes protein expression and purification and subsequent protein generation, potentially using bacteria, phage or other platform-based display libraries of proteins. The incumbent will need to work closely with the biologists to test these proteins in a variety of in vitro and in vivo models and use these results to further optimize these proteins to maximize their therapeutic potential and development through the preclinical and clinical development process.
• Ph.D. in Biological Science (Molecular Biology, Structural Biology, Protein Chemistry) or a related field (Chemical Engineering, Biomedical Engineering)
• At least 7 years of post-graduate experience in either an academic or industrial setting with strong and deep technical experience in biochemistry or areas related to protein expression and purification, protein engineering, biophysical and biochemical assays, construct design and molecular biology is required. Experience in tissue culture and cell biology is highly desirable.
• Experience generating and using protein and peptide libraries using phage, yeast or other platform display technologies highly desirable.
• Strong track record of success demonstrated through publications in highly regarded journals and/or intellectual property generation
